“Sure I can stay late” you offer to help your coworkers. The family runs out the door after dinner while you linger to clean up. Quietly you sit with your confused patient so he can sleep. The coworkers had no knowledge of the after-work plans you gave up, your family didn’t notice the clean kitchen and the confused patient will never remember how you calmed him. So why do it?
This may seem out of place in this look at me world, but it’s so true. When we do all we do to the best of our ability, some things (maybe most things) won’t get noticed by anyone.
But God notices.
He sees all we do: the good, the bad, and the unnoticed.
Maybe you saw the Miss Colorado speech on the Miss America pageant or on social media. In it, she spoke of a certain patient that encouraged her as a nurse. I too, have had those moments. Too often, nurses are overworked and underappreciated. But then one person-a patient or family member notices something you do and it’s all worth it.
God is that person for all of us. He sees all we do and doing it for Him makes our lives worth it.
Miss Colorado mentioned how she was “just a nurse” to her patient, Joe. Joe corrected her-she was so much more. We are all so much more. We are all more than “just a (fill in your occupation/student/person with this disease here)”.
God has created all of us in HIS Image. That means we are made in the likeness of God. God only creates good. We, however, can make our circumstances not so good by how we live and the choices we make. Sometimes, things happen that are out of our control. But we always have choices.
“Life is about choices: choose wisely”, someone wise once said. How accurate. Let’s choose not to see all we can’t do, but all we can. Give God the rest. If it’s part of His plan, then it will come to pass. But we’re not meant to just sit here. We are meant to do.
What can I do today? Clean the house with great abandon like Jesus is staying for the weekend? Provide needed encouragement to a client or friend?
What can you do today?
Maybe you don’t like what life has brought you this day. Bad things happen, whole seasons of our lives may not be what we envisioned. But that doesn’t give us a free pass to give up, try less or be anything other than the best God created us to be.
God sees us, even if no one else in the world does. He loves us more than anyone else can. Let’s do our lives the best way we know how. Live for Him, no matter what your job, your life circumstance, or your obstacle may be. Don’t listen to the lies of I can’t. Listen to the God who helps you say I can!
Then do it all for His glory.
